5 ways to make winter fun!

just because we're fabulous black girls doesn't mean we can't have fun during the colder months! get out of hibernation and try one of these 5 really cool ways to enjoy your winter.

  1. ice skating! go with your parents and siblings and laugh at them fall or get a group of friends together and have a ball.  you'll have so much fun that you won't even remember the cold.  if you're in the DMV area, here is a listing of places where you can get your skate on.
  2. start a book club.  if you're not with all that outdoor activity, grab a good book and a good group of people to read it with.  set goals for the amount of pages you want to read each week, then get together and discuss.  here is a list of 19 books that shaped a young black woman's soul, according to Amazon.
  3. go see a movie.  winter is the perfect time to catch up on good movies-- you get to be indoors and eat , it doesn't get better than that.  this winter, i'd suggest Red Tail (a story about  black pilots during World War II starring Terrence Howard), Joyful Noise (with Keke Palmer and Queen Latifah) and maybe Good Deeds (maybe).
  4. paintballing. it might hurt. but you can get out all of that energy and aggression building up as you wait for the warm weather to come back. just wear a mask to protect your pretty faces! i've heard this place is fun in the dc area.
  5. tell scary stories with homemade hot chocolate and cookies. if all else fails -- eat and be scurred. take turns with your friends and family to see who can tell the creepiest tale-- winner gets the last cookie :)
