given up on her dream-- now she owns her very own bakery ! remember when i was telling you about side hustles? well read about just how far drea took hers...
Andrea Dashiell started Honeecakes Bakery long before her first entrepreneurship course in 2004 when she was a student at Suitland Senior High School in Forestville, Maryland. She had been baking since childhood. It was a passion long before it became a lucrative business. She took orders and produced homemade pound cakes, pies and pastries around her school schedule, initially as part of her involvement with the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE).
After graduating from the University of Delaware with a BA in Communications and Black American Studies, Andrea continues to operate Honeecakes Bakery through online and telephone ordering, while working a full time job and holding various leadership activities in her community. Knowing the importance of philanthropy, Andrea often gives baking lessons to young girls as well as volunteers her time and services to House of Ruth.
She considers her business her pride and joy, and always runs her bakery on the following 3 rules:
1. Presentation is half of the battle.
2. You can always add (ingredients), but cannot always take them out.
3. Never bake when you are tired.
Her philosophy is: "When you infuse your business with your passion, opportunities present themselves so it can sustain. It’s important to create a business that works for you, not vice versa.”
