na na na diva is a female version of a hustla: 5 side hustles for extra $$

tell me somethin: where ya bawse at? ... just look in the mirror.

there's nothing better than being your own boss and making your own money; that's hustlin.  it's tough for young people to find jobs right now, so instead of depending on someone else to hire you-- hire yourself.  every last one of you has a hustle, because every last one of you is good at something.  it may take a while to figure out just what your hustle is, but that's what brenda michelle . is here for -- to get your creative juices flowing!  consider these 5 [side] hustles (because school comes first!) that could lead to your very own small business.

  1. babysitting.  are you patient, agile and attentive? do you have younger brothers/sisters/cousins/nieces/nephews that someone has trusted you to look after? are you ok with changing funky diapers?  well, it sounds like you should have your own babysitting operation.  put together a brief resume of your experience with children so clients know they can take you seriously with their babies [and with their wallets].  just don't break up anything in their house or have a wild party and you'll be straight.
  2. dog walking. folks love their dogs like they love their kids. so if you're good with kids, but could do without  the funky diapers, round up the neighborhood dogs and get some exercise for everyone involved.  pay attention to the commands that the owners' use to control the dogs [sit, stay, paw, etc.] to use for your own advantage. choose a route that you are comfortable walking and be aware of your surroundings.
  3. do some hair or nails. everybody wants to be pretty in black, but some people just need a little help.  that's where you come in!  if you know you can braid, twist, blow out, curl and all that, why not make a little pocket change?  practice on your sister or friends and take photos of your work.  create a portfolio or post the pictures on your Facebook, twitter, tumblr to spread the word that you are a fierce beautician. charge less than the salon for quality work and you're in business.
  4. tutoring.  maybe babies, dogs, hair and nails aren't your thing, but you can work you a math problem! or you know yourself some history! or you can split yourself an atom! whatever it is, there's at least one other person in your class struggling.   help 'em out.  show that you're worthy of tutoring by actively participating in class.  you don't have to do the most, but at least give a taste of your excellence. and put yourself out there to help; not everyone is confident enough to ask for it.
  5. repairing electronics. you girls are from a generation that can text without looking at the screen -- or even touching the screen at all for that matter [heyyy Siri].  and these old folks don't know nothin about that. if you're good with computers, cell phones, etc. use it to your advantage. it costs nothing to start-up, so the flip will be lovely.
[brenda michelle . extra tip] : make bright, colorful business cards with your name and contact information and the area that you specialize in.  either make them by hand or on the computer -- it's the effort that matters.  now werk, you little entrepreneur :)
